Double Helix (Book Club Choice)



Eighteen-year-old Eli discovers a shocking secret about his life and his family while working for a Nobel Prize-winning scientist whose specialty is genetic engineering.

1- Several people in this book go to a great deal of effort to keep secrets from each other. Discuss how lives would have been changed had some of those secrets not been kept.

2- Genetic manipulation can take place in many ways, for many reasons. Discuss your own opinion about what is ethical and not ethical about this process, whether it is done with animals or humans.

What is "transgenic" research? Does this kind of research change your opinion on genetic manipulation?

Chapter 7 helps you to really start thinking about what might be happening and maybe help you to start forming your own opinion.

Welcome Back to School!

Football and harvest time have arrived once more. That means back to school and a continuation of our book club.

Our summer book club was a great success. We will be starting our next book about mid-October. We will be reading "Double Helix" by Nancy Werlin.
